Delete a Domain From an Email Address in Excel

Here’s how you can remove your domain from an email address on Excel.

1. Insert a New Column for Data Manipulation

In our example, we have a list of email addresses from cell A2 to A6. Typically, you add new columns to organize or separate data without altering the original information.

We will insert new columns to the right of our email addresses where the usernames will be separated from their domains.

2. Select the Text to Columns Wizard from the Data Menu

Use the Text to Columns feature in Excel to split data based on a delimiter. We will select our column of email addresses and activate the Text to Columns wizard from the ‘Data’ tab to separate the usernames from their domains.

3. Specify the Type of Data Splitting

In the wizard, you must choose how your data is separated. We will select the ‘Delimited’ option because our email addresses are separated by the ‘@’ symbol, indicating where to split the username from the domain. Then, click ‘Next.’

4. Choose the Delimiter for Your Data

Determine which character Excel will use to split your data. For our dataset, we will check the ‘Other’ option and specify ‘@‘ as the delimiter to divide the email addresses into usernames and domains. Then, click ‘Next.’

5. Finalize the Data Destination and Complete the Split

Select where the new data should go; you don’t want it to overwrite any existing data. Click the ‘Destination’ field. We will ensure the destination is set to the new column we added by clicking the cell B2.

Now, click ‘Finish.’ Excel will split the usernames into this column.

We will now see that our column B only contains the usernames, with the domains removed.

We hope that you now have a better understanding of removing a domain from an email address in Excel. If you enjoyed this article, you might also like our articles on how to send an editable Excel spreadsheet by email and how to validate an email address in Excel.
